# Home

## What it does

###### Search

Full-text search that also understands references, using an index built on your computer.

###### Copy profiles

Copy a passage with a saved profile. Keyboard shortcuts keep the same format within reach.

###### Formatting

Separate profiles for typography and for how references are written.

###### Reader

Read a passage and move to the next one without leaving the app.

###### Reading tracker

Keep a record of what you have read.

###### Desktop workspace

Tabs and a desktop window, so reference work can stay open beside everything else.

## Use it ont the go, or install it on your computer

Bible Index can run in "portable" mode, like for a USB stick, or in installed mode. All files—Bibles, settings, cache—live in one data folder for each install. Updating Bible Index does not touch your data.

See the documentation for more information on [How the folders are laid out](http://bibleindex.app/en/docs/where-are-my-files)
